Introduction

Your student has been asked by the new President, Barack Obama to research different countries cultures, traditions, and the recipes associated with them. All of this is in an attempt to assist the new President and the white house staff in becoming more familiar with these traditions and cuisines. They will present this information through an online class cookbook. This electronic cookbook will include history, information, the recipe, and audio cooking instructions.

We are asking you as the Parent/Guardian to help your student in their research and development of this special assignment. They will be working in groups of four on a previously assigned country. Periodically throughout this project they will come home with brainstorming ideas, research, and questions for homework. I ask you to help your student in anyway you can with their thoughts and work on this project. If there is something you can't answer for them, suggest they save that question for me for the following day, but always answer to the best of your ability.

-If you have experience with another culture or tradition share your stories and experience! Personal information can be very useful in classroom discussions and aid your student in brainstorming within their group.

-Helping your student to cook the selected recipe can be a great hands on learning tool as well for utilizing necessary tools such as math, reading, and comprehension.

For Tomorrow's class discussion: talk to your students about what it means to you to have a tradition. Tell them how you give thanks. For example, we are going to be talking about the American tradition of Thanksgiving and giving thanks. No matter the tradition you share, it will give depth to the discussion and greater understanding to the students. They will be able to share with their classmates something special to them and their family.

Education goes beyond the classroom. You are a vital part of your students education and their primary teacher.
